An accident. A dented Mercedes with the music still running. Music from cassettes, from tiny archives with immense resonance. A repository of longing, of sanctuary, of familiarity. And of home. The home of first-generation migrants who arrived in Germany as so-called “guest workers” and who, through music, ensured their emotional survival. Who harnessed familiar sounds to defy speechlessness and alienation. Not out of nostalgia, but out of necessity. Together with the ensemble, director Caner Akdeniz forms the band Deutşland and creates a musical evening that becomes a gesture of gratitude toward this very generation.
