Aqua Tofana

Anger is healthy. But it is also often a privilege of the patriarchy’s favourites. And who are they? Well? Men! So what is to be done? Put an end to it – to men!

Gathered just a handspan beneath the earth are the furious, the exhausted, and those drained by patriarchal structures. Dedicated to outward relaxation yet harbouring an inner rage, a group of FLINTA* (a German acronym for women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and asexual) individuals has joined forces within an earthen cave, where they have constructed a utopia. Yet, they have never let go of their anger; it circulates through the layers of rock and through their very veins. Now, however, the time has come for a reality check: What is actually happening on the surface, and where does feminism stand? They return to the world above – and leave no stone unturned.

Director Therese von Aretin is making her directorial debut with “Aqua Tofana”, putting on a production of Ivana Sokola’s visually vivid, poetically militant text with equal love and relentless solidarity.
