A small family and some friends are celebrating Tuomas' and Stela's wedding. But someone is missing: Tuomas' older brother, whom no one is allowed to talk about. Ten years ago, he committed a massacre at his school and killed nine classmates and one teacher. The memories of the survivors bring the crime to life as well as its incomprehensible cruelty, the suffering that it causes, and the story of the young person who commits it. In her last opera, Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho poses with ancient force the question of innocence and responsibility for a crime in our modern day.
