Der Frei­schütz

Two young hunters vie for Agathe's love. Caspar is rejected and becomes ensnared by the devilish Samiel. His rival Max wins Agathe's heart, but is only allowed to marry her once he has proven his accuracy with a rifle. Now, of all times, he can't land a single shot. With Caspar's help, he casts magic bullets that never miss their mark. Max is so desperate that he will pay Samiel's price for these bullets: his own soul.

Weber's light opera of the Bohemian wilderness is perhaps the most German of all operas. It is romantic, enigmatic and unearthly. And it comes down to everything.
