Libretto by Konstantin Shilovsky, based on the work by Alexander Pushkin

In Russian, with German and English surtitles

Tatyana lives out in the country and all she knows about the rest of the world comes from books – until the world shows up on her family’s estate in the smug form of Eugene Onegin, and Tatyana’s world is turned upside-down. Onegin leaves a trail of destruction in his wake, breaking Tatyana’s heart and shooting his friend Lenski dead in a duel. From this point on, Onegin – the “superfluous man” – is left to flee from himself. Years later, he tries once more to forge a connection with Tatyana, who has since become a lady of high standing. Yet when he sees himself through her eyes, he becomes even more painfully aware of the emptiness of his life.
