Linguist Henry Higgins bets that he can transform the poor flower seller Eliza Doolittle into an elegant lady. The experiment works, Eliza speaks and curtseys her way to the upper echelons of society within just a few months – but does she belong? What rules and codes set social circles apart? What influence does language have on the perception of class and sex? What manner of speaking does it take to open up every door to us?

Multiple award-winning author duo Ivana Sokola and Jona Spreter have had a close working relationship ever since their studies in Scenic Writing at the Berlin University of the Arts. Their works stand out for their crisp, simultaneously poetic and humorous language. Eliza marks their first project for the Staatstheater Nürnberg.
