The Flying Dutch­man

Laden with a heavy debt and a wealth of booty, the Flying Dutchman only comes to shore every seven years. However, the Dutchman himself has given up all hope of finding a woman to love him unconditionally, thereby freeing him of his curse. Then he meets Daland, whose daughter Senta has long been fascinated by the fate of the legendary seaman.

Richard Wagner’s romantic opera is both a maritime horror story inspired by his own experiences on the stormy seas, and the portrait of a strong woman who defies the mores of society and is searching for her own path.
