Salome Schneebeli studied dance and choreography in New York, Strasbourg, and at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Amsterdam, New Dance Development. Trained as a Feldenkrais practitioner at the Feldenkrais Institute Vienna (from 2019) and (2022) trained as an intimacy coordinator.
Since 1988, she has worked as a dancer, performer, and choreographer with Sasha Waltz, Gonnie Heggen, Fumi Matsuda, David Moss, Simone Aughterlony, and others. Since 1997, she has received choreography assignments for productions at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, Theater Basel, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Thalia Theater Hamburg, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Burgtheater Wien, and others. She has worked with Hubert Wild, Niklaus Helbling, Victor Bodo, Nikolaus Habjan, and others.
Her own pieces have been shown in Switzerland and at international festivals in France, Germany, Egypt, America, and Georgia. Since 2012, she has been working closely with video artist Heta Multanen and scenographer Demian Wohler, with whom she founded the artist collective “DAS MORPHOLOGISCHE INSTITUT” in the same year.
Since 2009, she has been intensively involved in participatory projects and installations. This resulted in “Ich dich auch”, a project with 12 young people (Theaterhaus Gessnerallee), XPATS “a-maze,” “Geister, Gäste und wilde Tiere”, a joint project between “DAS MORPHOLOGISCHE INSTITUT” and artists from Georgia, and “Viele sind wir” with young women from the Mädchenhaus Zürich.
She was artist in residence in Bacau (RO) and Cairo (EG) and won the “Werk der Stadt Zürich” in 2010, a studio residency in Paris in 2012, a Freiraum grant from the Canton of Zurich in 2021, and a studio residency in London (Landis & Gyr) in 2026. Salome Schneebeli regularly teaches masterclasses at the Tbilisi Conservatory and gives dance and performance workshops/modules at festivals and institutions, including the ZHdK, Zurich, HKB Bern, Haute École d'Ingeniere et d'Architecture, Fribourg, Cairo Opera, Non-Science Symposium Salzburg, and Max Reinhardt Seminar Vienna. She lives in Glasgow and Zurich.
