Demian Wohler

Demian Wohler studied scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Basel. From 2006 onwards, he toured the German-speaking theater scene with the independent theater group “FARADAYCAGE” for six years (Gessnerallee Zurich, HAU Berlin, Theaterformen, Festival Impulse, etc.) and was resident with the group at Theater Basel from 2012 to 2015.

Since then, he has worked at various municipal theaters and opera houses, as well as in film and art contexts. He made a dance film in Tbilisi with the “Morphological Institute,” created set designs for a TV series and three feature films, co-founded the “Social Muscle Club Basel”, and was head of set design at Theater Oberhausen in 2017/18, where he won the Theaterfreunde prize for his first directorial work. Most recently, he has worked with director Marco Storman on “Casanova” at the Stuttgart State Opera, with director Paula Thielecke on “Mein Herz dein Bunker” at the DT Berlin, and with composer Jannik Giger on the music film “LAMENTO”, which is currently touring the festival scene with great success.
