David Gochfeld is an award-winning XR creator, a theatrical director and performer, and a researcher focusing on XR and interactive technologies for theatre and immersive storytelling. His pioneering work with live performance in virtual reality has appeared at festivals worldwide, including Tribeca, Raindance, SXSW and the Venice Biennale Cinema. He won an Emmy award for his work on Zero Days VR.

An experienced theatre actor and director, David has devised and performed works internationally. He trained at the Jacques LeCoq school in Paris and is a member of the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab. He holds a Masters in creative technology from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program, and formerly taught in the Computer Science department at NYU.

His research explores the dramaturgy of immersive storytelling, motion capture performance techniques, embodiment in virtual environments, new modes of audience interaction, and the design of creative tools for performing artists. He advises theatre companies in the US, UK and Europe on interactive and immersive technologies for theatrical productions. As the Performance Lab Fellow at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama for the past two years, he led a project to develop a virtual rehearsal room for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
