Alexandra Holtsch has been composing theater music since 1992 for theaters in Weimar, Konstanz, Freiburg, Basel, Jena, Linz, Saarbrücken, Braunschweig, Zurich, and Berlin. For several years, she has increasingly directed projects at the intersection of performance, theater, and music. She has worked at various opera houses, including Hannover State Opera, Stuttgart State Opera, Wuppertal Opera, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Among other works, she created the musical concept for the scratch opera "Barcode" for the 10th Munich Biennale – International Festival for New Music Theater and composed "Der Ring: Next Generation" after Richard Wagner for electronic music and orchestra for the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2013. She created the late-night performance series "Aus dem Hinterhalt" for the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and served as its artistic director from 2016 to 2019.
In 2022, she worked with Hubert Wild at the Volksbühne Berlin, composing the music for "Metamorphosen (Overcoming Mankind)," and in 2024 at the Schauspiel Frankfurt for "Der Würgeengel," directed by Claudia Bauer. Her first collaboration with Salome Schneebeli was for the opera "Trallalalalitrallalala" at Theater Basel, also directed by Hubert Wild.
