The Extended Reality Theater (XRT) is the new digital venue at the Schauspielhaus – the first of its kind in a German city and state theatre. Over the coming seasons, innovative technology will be used to create the theatre of the future:
In the XRT, digital sets and backdrops let us dive into all sorts of worlds; performers are able to interact with animated avatars or become the avatars themselves; algorithms can be made visible on the state, and it is easier for the Internet to become a part of the performance. Digitality is thus made tangible.
Our primary focus will be on-site performances for a physical audience. Digital theatre does not necessarily have to be streamed online. However, the new venue is a base camp from which we would like to perform in purely digital spaces where we will feel just as comfortable as we do outside of the theatre.
As the artistic director and long-time creator of digital theatre, Nils Corte is designing the new venue. He will present his own works and invite exciting artists such as the multiple award-winning director Cosmea Spelleken and the collective Cyberräuber to the XRT.
