The year 2000 … Distant horizons as far as the eye can see. These are the adventures of the drama-teaching department, which has spent the last decades exploring new artistic worlds with a crew of over 560 people on board a ship named Staatstheater …
First of all, our “Xplore” project has thousands of pupils and teachers venturing out into the theatre cosmos through the medium of workshops, assignments, concerts, plays and pre- and post-performance studies. The “Freestyle” creativity lab sees teenagers banding together and embarking on new artistic ventures and mounting legendary stage productions. Much has changed in the course of this long journey, some things have remained the same and the unimagined rest is a known unknown.

Leafing through the logbook, we can look back on a decade of Youth Theatre Club and 26 unrepeatable research trips. Our young pioneers relate their experiences and send greetings from other theatre ships, where they have been making their mark.

2015
The arrival of a new artistic director in 2007 heralds an expansion of the drama-teaching department. On she sails under the cryptic name of “U18plus”, pursuing more projects aimed at fostering musical theatre in schools. Our expedition turns 15. Many of our projects are long-term in outlook. Multifarious encounters are the best guarantee of making continued progress.

In 2016/17 the ship gets an additional crew member, who looks outwards for new contacts. The issue of integrating refugees into German society becomes a major theme for us on an ongoing basis.

2020/2021
… In the second and third season the theatre and its new artistic director Jens-Daniel Herzog have been struggling with a virus and the imposition of hygiene regulations. We are sticking to our ideas and creativity and falling back on the digital archive and public arena. We are developing new strategies and casting our minds to the future. We are moving forward steadily and have changed our name to + PLUS.
